The ABU is designed to attach wooden posts to existing concrete in high capacity applications. The built-in 1" standoff of this adjustable post base helps to prevent rot at the end of the post. The ABU has a slotted anchor hole in the base for adjustability and attaches to the post with nails, Strong-Drive® SD Connector screws or bolts. This versatile post base makes a cost-effective option for securing a post to the foundation, with a design built for maximum uplift performance.
The Simpson Strong-Tie ABU adjustable post base is designed to attach wood posts to existing concrete in high-capacity applications. It is a versatile, cost-effective way to secure a post to the foundation, with a design built for maximum uplift performance under earthquake or wind loading.
A built-in 1 in. standoff raises the end of the post off the concrete, which helps prevent rot at the base of the post. The standoff design also meets code requirements for structural posts installed in basements or in locations exposed to weather or water splash.
The base has a slotted anchor hole that provides flexibility around the anchor bolt, so the post can be positioned precisely even when the bolt is slightly off its mark. The post itself attaches to the base with nails, Strong-Drive® SD Connector screws, or bolts.
This model fits nominal 6x6 posts and is made from heavy steel, with a 12-gauge base and a 10-gauge strap. The ZMAX® galvanized finish offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications.
Install with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails or 1/2 in. diameter machine bolts. Fasteners are not included.
